"Communicable diseases kill, maim
and surprise us."
Control of Communicable Diseases
by David Heymann
Upper Missouri District Health Unit (UMDHU),
in cooperation with our public health partners, actively work to prevent
diseases from killing, maiming and surprising us. We provide
immunizations for children and adults for preventing
vaccine-preventable
diseases. This includes vaccines for
foreign travel. Working with our partners, we assure that our immunization rates stay high to
keep our communities healthy.
TB (tuberculosis) testing,
STD (sexually transmitted disease) testing
and HIV tests are offered at all 4 health unit sites.
Hand washing,
when done correctly, is the single most effective way to prevent the
spread of diseases.
Good hand washing technique is easy to learn and can significantly
reduce the spread of infectious diseases among both children and adults.
